Programme Background

The Master of Computing is a research-based postgraduate programme designed to develop competent researchers and professionals with advanced knowledge and expertise in computing. The programme emphasises the integration of theoretical knowledge, advanced research methodologies, and practical computing applications to address complex technological challenges. Aligned with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) Programme Standards for Computing, the programme integrates Naqli and Aqli knowledge to produce graduates who are innovative, ethical, and globally competitive. Students undertake independent research under the supervision of experienced academics while contributing to emerging areas of computing such as artificial intelligence, software engineering, data science, information security and assurance, intelligent systems, networking, and other computing disciplines.

Programme Objectives

The Master of Computing programme aims to produce graduates who are able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and research competency in computing to develop innovative solutions for complex computing problems.
  2. Apply analytical, technical, and quantitative skills in conducting high-quality research that contributes to the advancement of computing knowledge.
  3. Demonstrate leadership, effective communication, teamwork, and lifelong learning in academic, industrial, and professional environments.
  4. Uphold professional ethics, integrity, and Islamic values in computing research and professional practice.

 

Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO)

Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

  1. Integrate advanced knowledge analytically and critically in computing research.
  2. Recommend innovative solutions using multidisciplinary approaches to solve research problems.
  3. Apply practical computing tools, techniques, and software appropriate to current research developments.
  4. Demonstrate effective interpersonal interaction within diverse research environments.

Research Component

Master's Thesis

Students are required to:

  • Conduct original supervised research.
  • Complete and defend a Master's thesis through a viva voce examination.
  • Present at least one paper at a recognised conference or seminar.
  • Publish at least one paper in a university-recognised indexed journal prior to graduation.

Admission to Master’s Degree by Research

 

a. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or other recognised fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75, or an equivalent qualification as approved by the Senate; or

b. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or other recognised fields, or an equivalent qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 but less than 2.75, may be considered, subject to a rigorous internal assessment; or

c. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or other recognised fields, or an equivalent qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 but less than 2.50, may be considered, subject to a minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience and passing a rigorous internal assessment; or

d. Applicants with qualifications in non-related fields or without relevant working experience are required to undertake prerequisite courses as determined by the University and fulfil the minimum CGPA requirements as stated in paragraphs (a) to (c); or

e. Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with honours, with relevant professional working experience; or

f. Fulfil the requirements for APEL admission (subject to programmes approved by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency [MQA]).
